Description

Workshop Description

The youngest of all theatrical mediums, projection can be used in theatrical production to meet a variety of needs: sometimes it is used to extend 3D scenery, other times it is used as a complete replacement for dimensional scenery, and there are times when it is used as an atmospheric element, lending subtle depth that reinforces the emotional landscape of the show. Projection and media design is an exciting and challenging field that uses high-tech hardware and software in the creation and projection of still and moving images, drawing from and building upon practice that has become commonplace in theatrical lighting and sound design and control.

Students will learn how to source and create still and moving imagery and media content while discovering how to edit or manipulate the content to use within the projection environment. Students will also learn about projector basics, system configuration and control & playback software. The workshop will culminate in final individual presentations that may be a large-scale projection, a multi-surface project, or projection mapping on a scale model.

Each student will be supplied with a computer workstation for the day.
