Want to learn to carve like the pros? We have a great opportunity to get outdoors and embrace winter living with professional ice carver - Ryan Cook!
Join us the weekend before the 2023 High on Ice Winter Festival at our annual Ice Carving Workshop. This year's theme is "Explore the Folklore" a storytelling adventure in the heart of town, Centennial Park!
A complimentary lunch is included in this registration!
Workshop Details:
- This event is open to adults of all skill levels (youth 10+ are eligible to enroll with approval from parent/guardian and Arts and Culture Programmer).
- Single cavers are welcome and teams of no more than 3 people will also be accepted.
- Each person will register separately and indicate the people they are participating with
All participants registered for a workshop will receive a coupon for FREE registration to compete in the High on Ice Community Carve Competition that takes place on February 18 2023.
Ice Carving Overview:
- Each participant and team will be provided with one ice block to sculpt with
- Each block is a standard size of 40 x 20 x 10
- Portions can be cut off and reattached to change the proportions

- Additional ice block(s) will not be accessible
- All ice carvings will be required to stay in the park until Monday, February 20. Participants are responsible for removing their own sculptures should they choose to, site crew will not be available to help with removal
Tools to bring: (18+ only are allowed to bring their own tools)
- Sharp chisels, various sizes (big chisels are very useful)
- Dremel type tools are very helpful
- Electrical source will be provided however but power may be limited
Clothing/Materials to bring:
- Insulated rubber gloves (for in under winter mittens/gloves)
- Protective goggles are mandatory
- Proper winter clothes and ensure to bring extras (mitts, toque, boots, pants, jacket, etc)
- Water bottle, snacks, and any additional items you feel you need.
