Description

This winter-term course is an option for those with some previous theory background (approximately Royal Conservatory Level 5 or equivalent).

Study musical terminology, rhythm and metre, intervals, scales, chords and harmony, melody writing, analysis and music history.

It will prepare students for the RCM Level 8 and other equivalent national theory exams, and provides the necessary background for entrance into most university undergraduate music programs such as the MacEwan Musical Theatre or MacEwan Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music.

Students will engage with the material through active participation, gain insight through feedback from the instructor, and apply their knowledge through exercise assignments and sample tests.
  • Pre-requisite: RCM Theory Level 5 or equivalent
  • Required Workbook: Mark Sarnecki, The Complete Elementary Music Rudiments, 2nd Edition

Note: If enrollment is low, students may consider private or semi-private lessons with Dr. Robert Klakowich.

Restriction Exemption Program:
Parents, guardians, and instructors entering the Alberta College Campus will be required to provide proof of vaccination or 72 hour Rapid Test.
