About the Program
This year the Conservatory Big Band has been focusing on new works for Jazz Orchestra, especially those created by Edmonton based artists. In the first half, we’ll play new pieces by Geoff Li, Jacob Mann and “Miss Garvey, Miss Garvey!!” from “Emergence” by Roy Hargrove’s big band.
In the 2nd half, we’ll play Audrey Ochoa’s Ska Big Band project. We don’t have a dance floor at the conservatory, but these tunes will have you hopping in your seat. This will feature some of Audrey’s own compositions from “Trombone and Other Delights,” tunes from the Calgary based Ska band J.K. and the Relays, and the theme from the film series “The Guns of Navarone.”
Masks
Masks are still highly encouraged for this concert.
Although the government mandate for masking has ended, for the safety and comfort of our performers and patrons, we have decided to request patrons to wear a mask for this concert.
About the Conservatory Big Band
This is a full year program for musicians to play together. This year's focus is on current big band composition, especially by local jazz artists and composers. The secondary focus will be on the essential repertoire of big band, such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus.
