Description
This year we’ll be doing a deep dive on 6 jazz records, 1 for each week of the class.
We’ll break down ground breaking songs, examine the historical context, and read reviews by noted jazz critics.
Learn how to identify the form of pieces, speak about characteristics of a jazz solo, and many other critical features of jazz compositions. We’ll also ask and attempt to answer the question “What is Jazz?”
The last week is on hold for class presentations. Students will have the opportunity to introduce a record they enjoy to the rest of the class.
