The fall and winter classes are continual. The fall class is level I of the Music In Early Childhood series. The winter class is level II. Students who complete the winter class will receive a certificate.

At age 4, most children have an innate enthusiasm for sharing. It is especially magical because there is a certain amount of "reading preparedness" in this class. We dance, we sing, we explore movement and imagination to invite the detail of music into the mind and body, and spirit of the child. Books, puppets and all kinds of materials make this a great class with lots of action.
Overview of Skills and Concepts:
Rhythm – solidifying the concept of beat and rhythm, echo clapping in 4 beat patterns, the introduction and recognition of “ta,” “ti-ti” and rests
Melody – descending minor third interval so-mi, Curwen hand signs to indicate intervals, introduction of the musical staff, basic music notation
Form – rhythm patterns, alphabetical designation
Harmony – step the beat and clap the rhythm
Expression – fermata, crescendo & decrescendo
About the Music In Early Childhood Program
For 50 years, the Conservatory of Music has been introducing small groups of active pre-schoolers to the world of music through this Kodály-based music literacy program. Children joyfully discover the elements of music through nursery rhymes, traditional chants, singing games, folk songs, selected art music and movement activities. They learn contrasting concepts such as fast-slow, high-low, using a variety of instruments.

BUILDING UPDATE
The Edmonton Public School Board (EPSB) signed a sales agreement with MacEwan University on Monday, May 29th. This confirms a purchase of the Alberta College Campus by EPSB from MacEwan University.
MacEwan University Conservatory of Music is now a tenant of this EPSB building.
As of September 1st, 2023 the EPSB Property Management will require Alberta College Campus to be closed on Sundays.
PARKING UPDATE
As of September 1st, 2023, the parking lot will no longer be managed/monitored by MacEwan University and HonkMobile and the discount codes will be discontinued.
If any parking discounts become available from community partners, we will let students and teachers know.
ALBERTA COLLEGE CAMPUS LOT
The Alberta College Campus parking lot will have two different parking management companies.
NEW!
Weekday and Weekend: McDougall Church side is operated by Impark. Parking is available daily to the general public. There are no parking discounts with McDougall Church.
There is one impark machine. Use coins and credit card at the machine. No debit, bills, or online app. $4 - 1 hour, $8 - 2 hour, $12 - 4 hours, $16 all day, $20 until 6am.
After 4 p.m. weekdays and on Saturdays: students can pay for parking on the Edmonton Public School Board side of the lot through Concord Parking. EPSB staff have reserved parking from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. Parking rates are TBA and there are no parking discounts with EPSB.

How do I enter the Alberta College Campus?
ENTRANCE >>
When coming to campus, use the North Entrance facing the parking lot. The South Entrance facing MacDonald Drive is closed for entry. Press the buzzer located to the right of the door. Campus Security will unlock the door to let you in.
ELEVATOR & STAIRS >>
If you arrive before 12:40 p.m. on weekdays, ask Campus Security to provide you with elevator access to the 4th or 5th floors.
The Campus Security office is located at the North Entrance of the Alberta College Campus.
Due to the responsive nature of Security, you may need to call 780-497-5554 if they are away from their office.
Monday to Friday: Elevators and stairwell doors to the 5th floor and the 4th floor north end will be locked during the day. North Elevators unlocked at 12:40 p.m. All elevators unlocked at 3:15 p.m. Stairwells unlocked at 4 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: Elevators and stairwell doors on the 5th floor and the 4th floor north end will be unlocked during building hours.
