PRE-REQUISITE: Social Studies 20-1 or Social Studies 20-2

ABORIGINAL STUDIES 30 course provides a framework for all learners to enhance understanding of the wealth and diversity of Indigenous cultures within their region, Canada, and the World. This course reflects a perspective that encompasses and integrates the past, present, and future of Indigenous peoples. It can also serve to enlighten and contribute to discussion and analysis of Indigenous issues. Aboriginal Studies 30 is based on and incorporates the following concepts: Indigenous values and beliefs are resilient and relevant to global issues, Indigenous nations have strong, diverse, and evolving cultures that have adapted to a changing world. It is important that all students understand these concepts.


ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS: Students have mandatory online "check ins" that they must attend with their teachers at various intervals in the course to answer questions & assist with assignment completion. These check ins will occur online. Teachers will send the virtual meeting link once the class begins.


MANDATORY ONLINE CHECK INS: Students must attend 1 online session on each of the days listed below. Teachers will hold both an AM & PM session as students taking multiple courses cannot miss other class time to attend these sessions.
  • July 3rd & July 12th & July 24th: 8:30am or 1pm online


REQUIREMENTS: Students should a) be self-disciplined; b) have the ability to meet deadlines, c) have good time management and d) have good reading comprehension

Students must be able to dedicate 4 to 5 hours per school day working on the course materials. Students should a) be self-disciplined; b) have the ability to meet deadlines, c) have good time management, d) have good reading comprehension and e) be capable of independent learning with only a minimal amount of teacher assistance.

This course is located on our school district's Brightspace (D2L) platform. District students will use their current D2L username and password. D2L username and passwords will be emailed to non CCSD students.

All courses and school sites are subject to closure due to low enrollment. Should a course be cancelled due to low enrollment students will be contacted for a replacement course or refund. Should a school site be closed due to low enrollment, students affected will be contacted and offered a course at another school site, online or a refund.

TEXTBOOK PICK UP:

Summer School Students must return all previous quarter or semester textbooks to receive new ones.

1. Grade 11 & 12 CCSD students pick up at your CCSD Home School. Pick up schedule for each school will be posted on Brighspace D2L mid-June.

2. Completed Grade 12, graduated, upgrading students & non-CCSD students: pick up on June 25, 26, 27 and 28th from St. Anne Academic Centre (1010 - 21 Avenue SE) between 9:00am to 2:30pm

3. Online students who are unable to pick up their textbooks at their Home School may pick them up from St. Anne Academic Centre (1010 - 21 Avenue, SE), on June 25, 26, 27 and 28th, between 9:00am to 2:30pm


TEXTBOOK RETURNS:

Textbooks will be scanned upon return and upon confirmation of return, the $40 textbook caution fee will be refunded. Failure to return Summer School textbooks will impede your ability to pick new textbooks for the 2024/2025 school year.

1. 5 credit non diploma textbook(s) for incoming Grade 12 students: drop off textbooks at your CCSD Home School on the first day of classes in September 2024.

2. Completed Grade 12, graduated, upgrading & non-CCSD students: return textbooks to St. Anne Academic Centre (1010 - 21 Avenue SE) during August 2024 between Monday to Thursday 9am to 2pm. Return no later than September 13, 2024 to receive a refund.


REFUNDS:

1. NO REFUNDS on Registration Fee $10

2. REFUND for Textbook Caution Fee $40 - upon confirmation of Textbook(s) return, refund will be processed and automatically refunded to the method of payment used at registration.

3. Refunds will continue to be issued up until December 18, 2024.


COURSE CHANGE REQUESTS:
All requests to registration(s) must be requested by emailing: academicservices@cssd.ab.ca. All requests for changes are subject to current course availability and are not guaranteed.
