Description
Learn the art of Kantha embroidery in this fun full-day workshop taught by esteemed textile artist-instructor Amna Nawab. Kantha is a traditional type of embroidered artform originating in eastern South Asia, which involves stitching layers of old saris or cloth using a simple running stitch, resulting in beautiful quilts or decorative pieces. The workshop will cover the basic Kantha running stitch and how variations in thread count and medium can produce diverse textures. Participants will work together to create a small 5” x 7” embroidery piece that can be matted and displayed. This age-old craft demonstrates how the simplest stitches can create beautiful intricate textures. The therapeutic nature of hand stitching enhances this relaxing and rewarding experience. All tools and materials provided upon payment of $25.00 Materials Fee to instructor at workshop, including felt, yarn, wool, embroidery hoops, needles, scissors, and pre-cut matting. Bring a bagged lunch.
