Description

Learn the art of block printing in this fun and hands-on workshop! Printmaking is an artistic process involving the transfer of an image from a prepared surface, such as a carved block or an etched plate onto paper or fabric. Block printing with soft lino is essentially creating a rubber stamp – these blocks can then be used to print cards, stationery, t-shirts and tea towels or collaged into mixed media artwork. Perfect for beginners, or those looking for a refresher, in this class you will learn the techniques, tools and materials to make fun printed artworks in class and at home. We will work with printmaking paper, including fine Japanese paper. The focus is on black ink for the first half of the class and colour for the second half as we create a three colour reduction print. Our carving blocks are 4" x 6" in size. If you have an image you would like to carve, bring two black and white copies, ideally sized to 5" x 7". All tools and materials are provided upon payment of $10.00 Materials Fee to the instructor at the workshop. Please wear old clothes or bring and apron, rubber gloves and an old hand towel or rag can also be helpful. Bring a bagged lunch.
