Description
Dive into the world of collage art in this one-day workshop. This immersive workshop experience offers a unique opportunity to explore your artistic side, regardless of your background in art. You will learn methods for approaching collage in a playful manner, using an assortment of paper ephemera, such as hand-printed papers, music scores, dictionary pages, magazine text, etc., to compose simple abstract collages, while learning about colour usage, composition and uncovering your personal style. You will complete the workshop with several one-of-a kind mini artworks (which can be mounted on cards or framed), or serve as a template as you start on larger collages or paintings.
Materials provided upon payment of $15.00 fee to instructor. Students may choose to bring some of their own papers to supplement. This is a great class for experienced artists needing to jumpstart their creativity or expand their processes. It is also great for beginners looking for an inspiring and supportive setting to begin. Bring a bagged lunch.
Meet Your Instructor
Sharon Kirsh is an award-winning artist who creates captivating, dreamlike, intricately layered paintings using hand-made papers, printing techniques, fabric, stitching, paint, and found objects. A background in adult education and interior design provides her with insight into communicating about our shared humanity through the language of design. Kirsh uses elements within our natural surroundings as metaphor, much like a writer crafting a fable. Skillful and deliberate use of evocative colour and layering techniques bring forth joy, surprise and offer a unique opportunity for viewers to deeply engage with the work as they find their way within the depth and texture of their many layers.
