Description

Plein Air painting is the practice of creating art outdoors, directly capturing the essence of a landscape, scene, or subject in natural light. In this workshop, nature becomes your canvas while you learn essential techniques of acrylic painting, including basic blending and layering by esteemed Artist-Instructor Andrew Cheddie Sookrah, with the Richmond Hill David Dunlap Observatory as your backdrop for the day. Whether you're a novice or an experienced painter, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore the magic of painting ‘en plein air’. Unleash your artistic expression surrounded by the beauty of the natural world and leave with a masterpiece that embodies the spirit of the open air. Materials List will be sent to registered students.

Bring a bagged lunch. Wear/bring appropriate clothing for being outdoors. Please Note: This site has differing elevations outdoors, and the indoor classroom is only accessible by stairs -- there is no elevator.

Testimonials to his strengths in teaching:

Katherine Bellomo
Andrew Sookrah is an amazing teacher and compelling artist. His art classes are without exception inspiring, informative, and supportive. I’ve learned so much from him about colour, colour mixing, layering, and composition. Whether working, along with him, on his suggested photo reference, or working on your own piece he gives consistently helpful, valuable, and appropriate feedback that matches your goals and your own level of expertise.

Dale Sheldrake
As a first-time painter, it would've been easy to be intimidated by Andrew Sookrah's expertise and talent but he is an extremely positive, skilled and reassuring teacher. He helped me understand the basics of painting, of style and structure, while encouraging the development of my own artistic voice. I want to take any class he ever teaches.
