PARENTS & GUARDIANS - PLEASE READ
Our WYLD Program Coordinators are seasoned and experienced youth programmers. Please allow your child to independently apply for their best chance at securing an interview and placement. We do understand the necessary assistance that may occur from a technology standpoint but the answers should be authentically from the applicant. It is clear to us when a parent or guardian fills out this application on behalf of their child.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
  • Click "Enroll Now"
  • You will be taken to a page to sign into your rec online Saanich account.
  • If you do not already have an account, click "Create Account" at the top right cover of the screen.
  • The application will time out after 30 minutes.
  • You must complete all of your answers in one sitting otherwise, they do not save.
  • Our recommendation is to open the application and view the questions prior to filling it out at a separate time.
  • Fill out the application when you have a full 30 minutes to complete it in it's entirety.
  • When you're finished click "Add to Cart" the fee will be zero dollars. You will know your application is submitted when you receive an emailed receipt.

IMPORTANT DATES
Applications Accepted: April 1 to May 1
Only applicants chosen for an interview will be contacted. Candidates who receive an interview with our WYLD coordinators will be notified by email with instructions and interview registration options.

Training Dates:
  • June 4: 5:00 – 9:00pm
  • June 17: 5:30 - 8:30pm

Interviews:
  • May 12, 13, 14, 15 3:30 – 8:30pm
Interviews will run over the course of the dates and times listed above. However, individual interviews run over the course of one hour only and on one day.

Placement Confirmation: May 30
Candidates who receive a placement must attend all of the training listed in the program descriptions. Due to the high demand of this program, successful applicants who cannot make the training could forfeit their placement.

Placement Locations: Copley Park West, Marigold Park, Meadow Park, Reynolds Park, Horner Park, Glanford Park, Saanich Commonwealth Place and Gordon Head Recreation Centre.

Youth Professional Email Required: No - **While this is not a requirement, our WYLD program is a great opportunity to encourage youth to set up a professional e mail address for all future leadership and work communication. **

Youth Independent Communication Required: No – **While this is not a requirement, our WYLD program is a great opportunity to encourage youth to start to independently communicate with our staff mentors through email and phone. **

Experience Required: While this is an entry level program, priority is given to youth who are actively engaged with extra-curricular activities, school leadership, community leadership, coach in training, referee programs, volunteering, and babysitting.

Step One: Learn To Lead is the first step in our leadership continuum and is an introduction to working with community and kids. Program placements are in an outdoor or centre based summer camp setting. We are flexible with time and duration. We will work with you to develop a two weeklong summer placement schedule that is suitable for you and your family.

Upon a successful interview and enrollment in this program there will be a $180.00 registration fee. This program fee includes a T shirt, Tank Top, Games Manual, Guided Curriculum Workbook, 8 Hours of Training, 5 Hours of 1:1 Mentorship Meetings and 80 hours of guided hands-on leadership experience. A hoodie will be optional for purchase.
