Description

Led by our HIGH FIVE™ trained staff, University Settlement’s Afterschool program offers a fun and enriching way for children in downtown Toronto to end their school day. We have been listening to requests from local parents to extend programming to grade 8 students. This school year, we are excited to offer a pilot project and have our Afterschool program open to children from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 for 2023-2024!

The Afterschool Program does not run on TDSB PA days, March Break, or on Statutory Holidays and Observances: Oct 6, Oct 9, Nov 17, Dec 8, Jan 19, Feb 16, Feb 19, March 29, April 1, April 19, May 20, June 7. We offer full-day camps for PA Days, March Break and Summer Camp, please check out the registration for more info!

Daily Program Overview:
We offer a safe walking escort from Orde Street, Ogden and Lord Lansdowne Public Schools every school day. After a daily snack, children participate in activities from 4:15 to 5:30 pm with parent pick-up from 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm. We offer on-site group swim lessons once a week and a variety of activities such as: homework help, arts and crafts, active games, STEM, Builder’s Club, Reading Club, Computer Lab, Advanced Arts, cooking & baking programs and more!

Winter Swim Schedule:
Tuesdays: students grades JK - 1
Thursdays: students grades 2-6
* Please note, there is an instructor to participant ratio for safety during the swim lesson so your swim schedule is not guaranteed with registration if you register after the term starts

Dismissal Policy
University Settlement Community Centre Children's Programs has a?Code of Conduct and expectations that all participants, families, volunteers and staff are expected to follow. We reserve the right to dismiss a child who, in their opinion, is a hazard to the safety or rights of others, or who appears to have rejected the reasonable expectations of the program as set by the Code of Conduct. Refunds or credits are not available if a child is dismissed from the program.

Toilet Training Policy
We require all children attending to be toilet trained. This means that children should be able to use the toilet independently, including pulling down and up their pants, wiping themselves, and washing their hands. We have this requirement to ensure the comfort, safety, and hygiene of all campers and to provide an optimal camp experience for everyone. Toilet training helps promote independence and allows children to participate fully in all camp activities without interruptions. If your child is currently in the process of toilet training or has special circumstances, please let us know in advance of enrollment so that we can discuss possible accommodations or alternative arrangements. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us directly.

Financial Assistance:
Financial assistance may be available for children aged 18 years and younger, whose families qualify for support. Eligibility is based on the total household income, and the number of people in the family. A copy of your latest Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is required to process your eligibility. Subsidies are available on a first come, first-serve basis. There is a limit to our subsidy funding, therefore, the subsidy is not guaranteed. Contact the Children’s Program Coordinator at kidsprograms@universitysettlement.ca to determine eligibility BEFORE enrolling in the program.

Sign Out Policy:
Authorized pick-ups must present valid current forms of ID upon pick-up. Kids 12 and up with documented parental and guardian consent (contact Children Programs Coordinator) are allowed to sign in and out of the program.
