Description
This is the second part of a comprehensive introductory kayaking course and a pre-requisite for the Kayak Club. Intro to Kayaking (Basic Strokes): Part 1 is a pre-requisite for this course. Learn from a certified kayak instructor about spray skirts, wet exits, assisted re-entries and solo re-entries.
Session will run rain or shine. Dress appropriately for the weather and for repeated underwater dunking. A waiver form is required prior to starting session. Youth 16-18 must be accompanied by a participating adult.
Participants are eligible for the Kayak Club upon successful completion of Intro to Kayaking Part 1 (Basic Strokes) AND Part 2 (Capsize Recoveries) and can receive a 50% discount on a one month membership when joining within two weeks of course completion.

FCCC Waterfront Paddling Programs: WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING.
*All Paddling Programs*
What to Wear:
-Synthetic or wool clothing that is quick-drying – no cotton or jeans please.
-Shoes that can get wet – sandals with heel straps, aqua socks, or old running shoes. No flip flops!
What to Bring:
-Warm sweater or lightweight rain jacket or windbreaker.
-Sun hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses secured with a strap.
-Water bottle.
-A complete change of spare clothing (including footwear).
-A towel. Change rooms and showers are available at the False Creek Community Centre.
-A lock if you want to store items in a locker or a quarter if you want to use one of the wallet lockers in the lobby.
-Money for pay parking.
Arrive Early:
-Please meet above the Alder Bay Dock 10 to 15 minutes before the start of the program.
-We will not wait for you if you are late.

Additional Items to Bring:
-For the rescue portion of the course – when you’ll spend significant time underwater – additional, warmer quick-drying clothing that you can swim in (possibly over swimsuit). Wetsuits or dry-suits are great for this.
-A dry bag or a stuff bag with a plastic bag inside to store your wet gear.

-Bring lunch – there will not be any time to go to the market!
NOTE: The nature of the activity is such that you may interact with other people who are considered to be in good health, continuous physical distance between other people cannot be guaranteed, and, by participating in the activity, you are at risk of being infected by a pathogen, including but not limited to SARS-COV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19.
Communicable Disease Health & Safety Practices:

• Participants should assess themselves daily for symptoms of common cold, influenza, COVID-19, or other infectious respiratory disease before attending the Facility.

• All participants are encouraged to practice proper hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette by covering coughs or sneezes.
