Make New Friends: A Puppet-Making Workshop with Kyla Gilbert & Liz Oakley
Visiting Artist Bio

Running the workshop are Liz Oakley, a multidisciplinary artist who’s originally from New York City and who recently completed their master’s of fine arts in interdisciplinary arts at SFU and Kyla Gilbert, a visual artist with an MFA from Emily Carr University of Design who works intuitively and improvisationally to create sculptures.

Workshop Description

In this workshop you'll make a brand new rod puppet friend! We'll use lots of different materials/techniques: newspaper and tape, paint, cardboard, hot glue, fabric, buttons, recycled bits and bobs. We'll practice an intuitive, improvisational design process where our puppet will reveal its form as we go! And we will help our puppets express themselves through color, accessories, and animation! No experience necessary and all materials provided.
