Machinery of Government refers to the structures and process of government and how they work together to deliver results to the public. In this course, you’ll learn how government is structured, how decisions are made, how to navigate government bureaucracy and what it means for non-profit and non-government organizations. Understanding the machinery of government can support effective communication, relationship building and identification of funding opportunities. Structures and navigation will primarily focus on Provincial Government however will apply to federal government as well. The course includes an analysis of one case study.

This course is for:

- Non-profits and charitable organizations that want to learn how government processes work.

- Public servants who work in the public service.

- Anyone who wants to develop an understanding of how governments work.

Instructor Bio:

Cordella Friesen is the President and CEO of the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg and joined the Y in August 2022. Previous to her role in Y Winnipeg, Cordella was with the Manitoba government for 12 years including roles such as the Assistant Deputy Minister of Cabinet Operations and Planning with Executive Council and as one of the leads on the Vaccine Implementation Task Force.


Space is limited. Refreshments provided. Fees support the YWCA Westman's Women's Campus Development Project. In accordance with YMCA Brandon's Child Protection Policy, all registrants must present photo ID at the front desk upon arrival.

Refund policy: Refunds will only be issued up to 14 days prior to the start of the course and subject to an administrative fee of 20%.
