Description

The Swim Instructor portion of the course prepares the individuals to teach and evaluate the swimming strokes and related skills found in the Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life program. Candidates acquire proven teaching methods, planning skills, and a variety of stroke development drills and correction techniques.


The Lifesaving Instructor portion of the course prepares individuals to organize, plan, teach and evaluate lifesaving and first aid skills and resuscitation techniques in the Society's lifesaving and first aid awards. Successful candidates on the Lifesaving Instructor course receive two certification cards: Lifesaving Instructor and Emergency First Aid Instructor. Current Lifesaving Instructors are certified to teach: - Canadian Swim Patrol Program - Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross - Lifesaving Fitness, Distinction

This course is 100% mandatory attendance.

Prerequisites: 15 years of age by the end of the course; Bronze Cross or NLS certification (need not be current).

Program Refund Policy

Cancellation/Termination Policy
  • Programs will be monitored and will be cancelled no later than 3:30pm the day prior to the program.
  • Participants will be notified of a cancellation by email and text message (if possible). We ask that all contact information is accurate on their ActiveNET family account to avoid delays in communication.
  • Programs cancelled by the Recreation and Culture Department will result in a full credit applied to account or transfer to another available class. Full refunds will be issued upon request by credit card or cheque and mailed to the address on the account within four to six weeks from the time of cancellation.
