Description

The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) is required in Canada to apply for your Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL). In Canada, you cannot own or buy a firearm or ammunition without obtaining your PAL. The content of this course is controlled and approved by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Canadian Firearms Program and was developed to meet the mandatory requirements of section 7 of the Firearms Act.

This course is designed by the RCMP and administered in Alberta by the Alberta Hunter Education Instructor's Association.

Instructor: Dan Johnston

- Course length is nine hours (9AM to 5PM) including a half-hour lunch, but not including practical testing time. The number of people taking the course will impact the amount of time required for the practical portion of the course. The practical exams will keep one student as late as 8pm.

- Students must bring a piece of photo ID. Bringing lunch is recommended.

- Students who are under the age of 18 are welcome to bring a parent with them for information. The parent will be able to take the course only if they are registered to do so.

Topics covered in the course:
• evolution of firearms, major parts, types and actions
• basic firearms safety practices
• ammunition
• operating firearm actions
• safe handling and carry procedures
• firing techniques and procedures
• care of non-restricted firearms
• responsibilities of the firearms owner/user
• safe storage, display, transportation, and handling of non-restricted firearms

Students will receive a course manual, two useful brochures, an application form for their license, and a completed copy of their supporting documentation indicating completion of the course.
