Description

Cougars High Performance - Skill Development Volleyball Training Camp
  • Direct Exposure to Head Coach and University Program: Participants have a unique opportunity to be coached directly by the Head Coach of the University program, gaining valuable insights and experience.
  • Coaching by the University of Regina Women's Volleyball Roster: In addition to the Head Coach, the camp is also led by the full roster of the University of Regina Women's volleyball program, ensuring top-level coaching and mentorship.
  • High Volume of Contacts: Each day, participants engage in over 1000 touches, providing ample practice to improve their skills and techniques.
  • Advancement of Concepts: Camp attendees get introduced to advanced concepts beyond their regular development schedule, giving them a head start in their future progress as volleyball players.
  • Continuous Technical Feedback: With a low athlete-to-coach ratio (7 athletes to 1 coach), participants receive constant technical feedback, enabling them to refine their skills effectively.
  • Daily Mental Performance Sessions: Mental performance is an integral part of the camp, with dedicated sessions each day to enhance the athletes' mindset and focus.
  • Comprehensive Skill Breakdown: Each skill is broken down to its raw mechanics, allowing participants to gain a complete understanding and facilitate skill acquisition with ease.

Camp is designed for club/rep athletes.

Weekly Schedule
Day 1 (Monday): PASSING
  • Focus on movement, platform creation, stability, manipulation, and control during passing.
  • Special attention given to improving serve receive skills.

Day 2 (Tuesday): SERVING
  • Techniques covered include float serve, jump float serve, and jump spin serve.
  • Emphasis on toss, contact, footwork, and consistency in serving.

Day 3 (Wednesday): SETTING
  • Out of system setting techniques are explored, along with in-system concepts.
  • Participants work on footwork, clean technique, and consistency in setting.
  • Free ball passing (Hand pass) skills are also addressed.

Day 4 (Thursday): ATTACKING
  • Participants learn attack approach, arm swing mechanics, jump techniques, and how to play with aggression.
  • Both front-court and back-court attacking skills are covered.

Day 5 (Friday): DEFENSE
  • Focus on blocking techniques and defensive posture.
  • Introduction to basic defensive setup and zone coverage for a well-rounded defensive skillset.

Example Daily Schedule
Day 1 (Monday): Platform Passing & Control


9:00 am - 9:15 am: Welcome and Warm-up
  • Camp staff welcomes participants and provides an overview of the week's activities.
  • Athletes learn dynamic and shoulder warm-up.

9:30 am - 10:30 am: Introduction to Movement & Platform Creation
  • Introduction to the concept of movement before pass, emphasizing stability & comfort in play.
  • Athletes learn essential lateral movements (including side shuffling, step-shuffle, lunge, etc.).
  • Understanding the difference between strong and weak passing postures.
  • Participants practice forearm passing while focusing on proper platform creation & stabilization.

10:30 am – 10:35 am: Break

10:35 am - 11:45 am: Platform Angles & Control
  • Introduction to platform angles, teaching participants how to redirect passes to specific locations.
  • Learning to control the height and pace of passes and their impact on the game.
  • Practice forearm passing, honing their ability to control the pass while directing it towards a target.

11:45 am - 12:30 pm: Lunch Break

12:30 pm - 1:30 pm: Outside-Body Passing & Serve Receive
  • Focus on platform creation for passing balls outside the body.
  • Combining movement with platform control to effectively handle fast-paced serves.
  • Working on set-up and communication during serve receive (identifying seems, etc.).

1:45 pm - 2:15 pm: MENTAL PERFORMANCE CLINIC
  • Introduction to mental performance and its impact on athletic abilities.
  • Participants will be exposed to various concepts and theories that influence their performance.
  • Topics covered include “Controllables vs. Un-controllables” to help athletes develop a winning mindset.

2:15 pm - 3:15 pm: Gameplay
  • Players engage in modified volleyball games to practice the skills learned during the day.
  • Emphasis on teamwork, strategy, communication, and implementing new techniques.

3:15 pm - 3:30 pm: Cooldown & De-brief
  • Following the cooldown, athletes proceed with a series of static stretching exercises.
  • During this time, a de-briefing takes place, allowing athletes to reflect on and consolidate the valuable learning experiences from the day’s training.
