Description

Judo is a dynamic sport that teaches throws, holds and submissions in a way that can be practiced safely and applied to competition, fitness, and life. It teaches many direct lessons in the way of physical movement, self defense, and fitness as well as many indirect benefits of mental and physical well being.

We aim to increase skills, fitness, confidence, grit, and courage that carry over into life so that you can realize your potential and succeed in your personal goals and aspirations.

The U of R Varsity Judo Club is heavily focused on the sport and competitive sides of Judo whether that be recreational or high performance you will learn and apply skills in a safe yet challenging environment. You will be asked to challenge yourself and experience growth that you can be proud of.

• "In sports, attitude comes first, talent second."
• "Champions keep playing until they get it right." - Billie Jean King
• "I can accept failure. Everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying." - Michael Jordan
• "To uncover your true potential, you must first find your own limits, and then you have to have the courage to blow past them." - Picabo Street

  • We believe that the first step is ensuring that the coaches and athletes are aligned.
  • We will meet you where you are at in the sport and life and build you up from there.
  • We will work with you to move out of your comfort zone and gain new experiences.

When you step on the Judo mats, we will honor and emphasize the traditional values of the sport:
• playing by the rules
• co-operating with others
• respecting self and others
• self-discipline and humility
• self-confidence and commitment
• perseverance and determination
• concentrating and controlling emotions

High Performance*
Everything we do in our program is geared towards progression and so we are creating a special program for those who are looking for more. This program is meant to help those athletes who have goals to not only compete but experience success on the national and international Judo scene. There is no one-dimensional path to success. This program recognizes this and supplements regular Judo trainings with critical mental, physical, nutritional, and tactical/study sessions. All these added dimensions are meant to help athletes learn and improve themselves to be the most that they can be.

Please note that your class registration fee is automatically applied. However, there may be additional fees you need to pay. If you are a new member and have not registered for Judo classes in the fall of 2023 or winter of 2024, you will need to add the Judo Canada fee of $75 which registers you with Judo Canada for the current term. Judo Canada's registration calendar is September through August, so this fee needs to be paid once during that period.

Additionally, if you do not have a Gi (uniform), please add the $120 fee for the Gi at the bottom of the registration page.
