- Cello Class (for all cello players regardless of level)
Our Youth Strings Program (previously Child/Parent Strings program) helps young violin and cello students build important ensemble skills in their instrument while helping your family build friendships and community with other families studying string instruments at the Conservatory. This is a family program, which means an adult (ex: parent, grandparent, or other adult caregiver) attends lessons and classes with your child. Family learning is the key to a successful start in learning violin or cello!
Children start with one-on-one lessons then move into the group program when your child is set-up with their instrument:
- Violin Group Class meet once a week for 45-minutes (at either 5:15pm or 6:15pm) and encourages polishing performance pieces, reviewing repertoire, and building community.
On September 13 (first day of class) at 5:15pm all adults will go to CB 112 for a Family Meeting, with violin/cello students going to CB 110 or 108 to play fun music themed games. At this meeting you will connect with other families involved in the program, meet your child’s instructor, get an overview of the schedule for the year, briefly learn about using UR Community, and get your classroom assignment. Violin and cello students are split into groups based on playing level and your child will either have class at 5:15pm or 6:15pm for the remainder of the year.
When students have at least 2 years of experience in this program or in their instrument they can join our Conservatory String Orchestra (ages 8-12) then eventually join our Conservatory Youth Orchestra (ages 12-16). Learn more about our other group music programs on our website: Group Music.
Note about UR Community: If you do not already have an account our Student & Instructor Services Non-Credit Office will create an account for you or your child and log-in information will be e-mailed prior to the course starting. All weekly course information from instructors should be posted and communicated in this online classroom. While this is not a hybrid program, if participants are ill or out of town, you could join this class via Zoom. Classrooms in UR Community will have a link to a Zoom classroom. Please just notify your instructor at least one business day before your class if you need to join class this way to ensure the instructor can accommodate your request.
