Description

Our Ukulele Family Program is an 8-week long program that introduce both you and your child to the basics of Hawaii's small but mighty guitar-like musical instrument.

You must register BOTH you and your child (or children) in this course as spots are limited. The adult caregiver attending with your child can be a parent, guardian, or other important adult to the child (ie: grandparent, aunt/uncle, cousin), but the adult is learning along with the child, so it should be the same person week-to-week. Adults should be 18 years old or older. Youth participants are recommended to be between ages 8-12 but teens can also participate.

Families will learn to strum, chord and accompany songs in a supportive class environment. We typically play folk, traditional, jazz, and 50's/60's rock music.

Families must supply their own ukulele and chromatic tuner (the tuner can be shared between family members, but you should each have your own ukulele). You can also opt to use a phone app tuner like insTuner. Ukuleles and tuners can be purchased at most music stores in the Regina.

Ukuleles should be purchased before the first class; we recommend a model that runs between $65-$85. A soprano ukulele is recommended for any child under 12. An adult or teen participant may wish to try a larger version like a concert ukulele. Most ukuleles come in the right hand version, but can be easily converted if someone in your family is left handed.

Note about UR Community: If you do not already have an account our Student & Instructor Services Non-Credit Office will create an account for you or your child and log-in information will be e-mailed prior to the course starting. All weekly course information from instructors should be posted and communicated in this online classroom. While this is not a hybrid program, if participants are ill or out of town, you could join this class via Zoom. Classrooms in UR Community will have a link to a Zoom classroom. Please just notify your instructor at least one business day before your class if you need to join class this way to ensure the instructor can accommodate your request.
